What Is a WordPress Menu And How To Create a Menu in WordPress
When you finish installing WordPress for the first time, of course there is no menu available.
We can create menus in wordpress with categories, pages or with certain links.
What Is a WordPress Menu
The wordpress menu is a navigation for visitors that functions to make it easier for visitors to find something they are looking for on the site that we have.
How To Create a Menu in WordPress
Although we can create many menus, most sites only have 2 menus, namely the menu in the header section and the menu in the footer section.
The menu in the header is usually a navigation for post categories and the menu in the footer is a menu to point to certain pages, for example the contact page.
First you have to create several categories and pages first, which we will make as a menu.
Create Categories In WordPress
- Select Post
- Create a Menu Name
- Create Menu Slug – Menu slug cannot contain spaces, separate words with ” -“
- Fill in the Menu Description
- Add New Category
Creating a Contact Page
The contact page will be used as a menu in the footer.
- Select Pages on the WordPress Dashboard
- Add New
- Create a Title and Page Contents
Create A Menu On Wodpress
1. On the WordPress Dashboard Select Appearance – > Menus
2. Create Menu Name -> Create Menu (In my example I created a menu name with the header menu name)
The primary menu will be used as a menu in the header section of the site.
The menu location is determined by the theme design you are using, it’s possible that each theme names the menu location differently.
3. Select Categories -> View All -> Select All -> Add To Menu -> Save Menu
You can see an example of the results on the header menu on the discusswp.com site.
To create a menu in the footer, do it with the same steps, only, in step number 3, you have to select Pages, not a category, because the menu will lead to the contact page.
